Control Integrity Assessments - EN 13849 & EN 62061
Traditionally, EN 954-1 has been used as the standard for safety related parts of the control system both for machine builders and end users. Since it was first published in 1997, state of the art has moved on dramatically and components and systems are now available which are too technologically advanced to use EN 954-1.
EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061 are newer, more advanced standards which can deal with the newer technologies, however they require increased levels of knowledge and experience to apply correctly.
Why Choose Laidler for your Control Integrity Assessments
At Laidler Associates we are able to offer advice and assistance in the application of EN 13849-1 to mitigate machinery safety hazards. Following a comprehensive risk assessment undertaken in accordance with EN14121-1 for the relevant phases of the life cycle of a machine; where safety functions are to be performed by safety related parts of the control system (SRP/CS); then EN 13849-1 can be used to show compliance with the machinery directive 2006/42/EC.
We can work alongside your design / engineering team to:
- Determine the performance level required (PLr) for each safety function;
- Assist with design and technical realisation of the safety function;
- Evaluate the performance level considering category, MTTFd, diagnostic coverage (DC) and common cause failures (CCF);
- Complete validation to demonstrate that the combination of SRP/CS providing each safety function meets all relevant requirements.
